If you are an avid OneNote user, there might be times when you want to export a specific OneNote page to a PDF document. For example, I recently made a travel itinerary in OneNote and wanted to convert it into PDF format so that it’s easier to share with others and make physical copies when needed. The good thing is that OneNote has built-in options to convert any OneNote page to PDF with just a few clicks. Whether you are using OneNote for Windows 10, OneNote 2016, OneNote 2019, or Microsoft 365, follow the steps below to export OneNote to PDF in Windows.
While exporting OneNote to PDF, there is one crucial thing you should keep in mind. If your OneNote page is not a regular size (i.e., you are using infinite canvas), you might need to adjust the page’s orientation or change the OneNote page styling/formatting before exporting. This ensures that the exported PDF document looks as intended. Otherwise, the PDF might not appear as you expect.
Important Note: OneNote has two major versions: OneNote for Windows 10, which comes pre-installed in Windows 10 (not applicable to Windows 11), and OneNote (previously known as OneNote 2016, OneNote 2019, and Microsoft 365 OneNote). Depending on your OneNote version, follow the steps in the relevant section.
First, open the Start menu, search for OneNote for Windows, and click the Open option. Once it opens, open the notebook of your choice and select the page you want to export to PDF.
Next, click the Menu icon (three dots) on the top right corner and select the Print option.
This opens the Print dialog. Select Microsoft Print to PDF from the “Printer” dropdown menu. Optionally, change the orientation if needed. After that, click Print.
In the “Save as” dialog, select a folder to save the file, enter a name in the “File Name” field, and click Save. Make sure that the “Save as type” is set to PDF (*.pdf).
As soon as you click the Save button, OneNote exports the page as a PDF document and saves it with the name you’ve given in the place you chose. To verify, open the File Explorer and go to the save location, and you will see the exported OneNote to PDF document.
First, open the OneNote program. You can do that by searching for OneNote in the Start menu. Once it launches, open the Notebook of your choice using the “Notebook Navigation Bar.”
Next, select a section and then select the page you want to export on the sidebar.
After selecting the OneNote page you want to export as PDF, click the File option on the command bar.
Now, go to the Export tab on the sidebar, select Page under the “Export Current” section, select PDF(*.pdf) under the “Select Format” section, and click the Export button.
Note: You can also export an entire OneNote notebook or section as a PDF by selecting Section or Notebook under the “Export Current” section.
Select a folder to save the file, type a name for the file in the “File Name” field, and click the Save button.
As soon as you do that, the file is instantly exported and saved as a PDF document in the destination folder you chose earlier. You can verify it by opening the destination folder in File Explorer.
As you can see, thanks to the built-in options, it is a fairly simple task to save a page, section, or notebook in OneNote as a PDF. Remember that if the page you are exporting is not in regular size, adjust the orientation in the print dialog to ensure it is exported correctly.
